Inspired by terminal signage of the past, the motion system breathes a new life into a bygone era of airport and train station wayfinding. The language was translated across the entire experience, from digital screens and ceremony reveals, to pamphlets, brochures, and other printed materials.

Translating Motion Across the Event

The RIMOWA Design Prize celebrates German design excellence by empowering creative talents shaping the future. This year, MOUTHWASH Studio developed an intuitive motion system designed to scale across installations, promotional materials, and social campaigns.

Inspired by terminal signage of the past, the motion system breathes a new life into a bygone era of airport and train station wayfinding. The visual motif aligns naturally with RIMOWA's heritage, as mobility has always been central to the German travel brand's identity.

The second edition of the Design Prize invites consideration of what mobility means to everyone, "not just those who are able." The motion system shuffles and files information unexpectedly, resembling Tetris gameplay with luggage pieces.

Despite many moving elements, the motion unfolds against a solid, grid-like foundation, ensuring information remains digestible and the system functions primarily as a communication tool.

The RIMOWA Design Prize operates as more than an incubator for aspirational ideas—it converts potential into tangible projects with lasting global impact. MOUTHWASH Studio contributed to this legacy through their motion system displayed throughout the event.
